I for one am interested in doing some kind of actions because I have my own horrendous set of experiences. My daughter is mrdd, and lives with a guardian. There is serious trouble going on, but David, as you have said, the CONFIDENTIALITY laws designed to "protect" the vulnerable DO NOT sometimes, if those laws keep the next-of-kin and other close family/ friends from knowing what is going on! These people need strong advocates that LOVE them for one thing, and the system is set up to EXCLUDE us.
The system should be contacting families about their disabled members on a regular basis, instead! of course. that's so obvious. But, the secrecy only keeps help away, and keeps the perpe-traitors' dirty secrets from being exposed. Until people die, etc. from it!

Oregon Advocacy Center is also NOT a part of any solution for me, or rather my daughter, I have found!

This is the first time I have visited your blog, you get a million kudos right this minute. Right arm, dude. count me in. Where do I join? :D)
although i do want to stay anonymous to a degree on this site, for protective reasons.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3361785784498692060.post-47555991358027746282007-11-29T08:08:00.000-08:002007-11-29T08:08:00.000-08:00As a mandatory abuse reporter it's your obligation...As a mandatory abuse reporter it's your obligation to call protective services if there is abuse and/or neglect going on.

Soetimes thorough investigations occur and sometimes things are whitewashed. I've seen both.

In March I posted a story of medical neglect which led to the death of someone I cared very much about. However; that wouldn't prevent me from reporting in the future. Next time I'll leave OAC out of the picture.David McDonaldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02023134941731366721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3361785784498692060.post-36618383501237961002007-11-28T23:59:00.000-08:002007-11-28T23:59:00.000-08:00How can we actually verbally converse about this t...How can we actually verbally converse about this topic ? I am working with Developmentally handicapped Adults in group homes in Oregon and since starting work with them I find a greater and greater admiration for the clients and more and more contempt for the staff managers and deaf, dumb and intentionally blind adminstrations.
I need to talk to someone as I wish to quit my job and scream..I already have been sick, I already have cried and had sleepless nights and now I am the enemy they consider a potential threat and whistle blower ? They have already begun a smear campaign starting trouble for me to force me to quit or to get fired. The irony is there is not place to whistle blow to whom ? They all cover for each other and the reporter becomes their new victim. It needs to stop..the loving good people quit regularly because they can not handle it but always stay worried for the clients. Help me help them and let me talk in saftey without fear !!!!!!!!!! I saw the Oregonian article this past month from a counselor I have had to go see just to cope with this abuse at work...I want to quit as of tomorrow...I wish there was just anyone I could trust to speak to about my experiences and then find a job a new job knowing I tried to do something to protect and defend these clients not just walk out and leave them. When I started the people in my home told me they really liked me. Then they said, " Are you going to leave ? Because everyone who starts working for this place always leaves. Does that tell you something ?
ElizabethAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
